GLOSSARY

Positioning.

Positioning defines the audience a brand serves, the value it offers and the alternatives it competes with.

Why it matters

Useful positioning guides product and communication decisions. It should make the brand’s choices clearer, including which prospects or opportunities are a poor fit.

For whom? What value? Compared with which alternatives?

Put it in context

Use this concept alongside the relevant customer journey, business costs and measurement assumptions. A single metric rarely tells the whole story.
